There’s a certain ring to the word ‘liberating’.
Sends chills to the spine as soon as you hear it. And it works best if you have
ever been confined in your life. Confined to do something your little heart
desires. Confined to eat something or wear something. Speaking as a woman,
there have been many restrictions and rules in life. Thankfully as I am growing
up I can see the world becoming a more liberating place.
Freedom of choice, freedom of who you
want to be, freedom to eat and most importantly to wear. It’s no longer a
limitation if you are not skinny or single-digit size (Hail Vidya Balan and
Sonakshi Sinha). People from all over the world are finally breaking the
shackles and systems that define the beauty and subjugate it to a certain size,
colour or age.
We no longer see the brainy bookworm
to be one with dorky glasses on only (remember Deepika Padukone as Naina in
‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’). In fact, she’s the one with an amazing dressing
sense. The new girl in your college class with that super short dress is also
her school topper. The lady who lives next door and works in a corporate firm
is not someone who wears salwar-kurti to the office all the time. Some days,
you’ll even catch her dressed in a pencil skirt, blouse and smart stilettos from
her vast collection of heels. This new world has no place for set stereotypes.
We now have the free will to celebrate or natural selves without fear of
getting judged.
In fact, if we take a deeper look it
might be safe to say that somewhere we also had ourselves to blame. In this quest
for flawlessness, we had forgotten the significance of uniqueness. Before
taking extreme measures to alter ourselves, we never realized that there can be
no better version of us.
There is no one who can pull off you
better than you. And it is needless to say that this new realization has hit
the fashion-industry, and is changing the face of beauty. Multinational
companies and various designer brands are abandoning the concept of made-up
radiance. Gone are the days of photo-brushing every curve of a female model’s
body. Even the mannequins are carefully designed so that they do not portray
immoral image to the customers.
There is one such online portal that
has been in the news for their initiative to introduce a selection of plus-size
clothing – DesiFirangi.com. They cater to every attire-related need of today’s
women. What’s interesting is that in addition to having the latest collection
of leisure-wear, club-wear, beach-wear and nightwear for women, they have all
the dresses in multiple size options without sacrificing on the aesthetics of
the attire. With each beautiful piece in their store – whether it is peplum
dress, two-piece club dress or silk nightwear – they offer a variety of colours
and sizes for the trendy Indian women. They say that their clothes are for
females withan “Indian Soul and International Style”. Can't get more liberating
than this, can it?
Happy Browsing, ladies.
*Cheers*
